Dorchester Remembers | August 10th

On August 11, 2015 at 7:00pm  family and community members will gather at a Candlelight Vigil on 91 Devon Street in Dorchester to celebrate the life of Antoine Marquis Dingle-Knight and to honor all victims of violence. In Boston, this year alone, 15 people have been killed. Go out and support/ remember those who arent here.

Peace Walk and Rally | June 16

"Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with us." The community will come together to walk and rally for peace on our streets. The walk route begins at Ashmont Station onto corners of Fuller and Washington where the 16-year old boy was killed last week. We will continue to walk up Fuller to Morton Street and onto West Seldon.

A candle-light vigil is also to take place for the 7-year old girl killed on her bike on West Seldon Street. The walk will proceed through Norfolk Street to New England and Talbot Avenue. 

A 3rd candlelight vigil will take place for the 18-year old young man hit and killed on his bike.

All are encouraged to attend.

Fathers Day Walk | June 21

 Celebrate fatherhood and family values while being active and a part of the community! Come to a fun 2-mile walk for youngsters, adults, and families! The first 100 to arrive will receive a free T-shirt!

Edible Plant Walk | May 23

Back by popular demand, local naturalist, Pam Kristan, and members of the Boston Food Forest Coalition will celebrate the return of spring on a relaxed foraging walk through Boston's legendary Franklin Park! Pam will guide us through the many edible layers of the woods as we observe and sample late May's finest offerings: greens! Be sure to bring your tastebuds, as Pam will bring a seasonal dish or two to share with the group! Dress for for outdoor walking. Meet at Valley Gates, the dirt parking lot midway along the park road across from the golf course and next to the Pierpont Road fork.

Don't be afraid of a little cold weather! We'll stay on paths that are plowed if there's snow on the ground and enjoy the beauty of the bare trees and Olmsted's magnificent landscapes.

 

Groundhog Day Stroll | February 2

February 2 is Groundhog Day! Join BNAN staff and volunteers, for a winter stroll exploring the new section of the Neponset Greenway trail slated for construction later this spring. Start at Martini Shell Park with the destination of Paul's Bridge and Burma Road, the gateway to the Blue Hills. This short walk will contrast the roadside trail route with the sheltered woods and riverside will find in lovely Fowl Meadow. Members of the Neponset Greenway River Greenway Council will be the guides.

The group will meet at 1:00 p.m. at Martini Shell Park, 1015 Truman Parkway, Hyde Park. The walk will last approximately 1.5 hours. We are planning to hike unless there is severe weather.

New Year's Walk | January 4

Saturday, January 4th 10am – Noon
Join Franklin Park Coalition for a winter walking tour around the golf course. Traverse the old stone bridge over a frozen pond, see the woodlands and views with leaves down, and enjoy others glad to get out of the house and walk off holiday calories. Wear walking shoes, we’ll be on a plowed path if there is snow.

Halloween Night Walk | October 25

Friday, October 25th 7pm at the Valley Gates Parking Lot, Glen Road and Circuit Drive (look for giant Jack-o-lantern), Franklin Park Coalition invites the community to walk through the park on a FREE guided tour at night. No flashlights allowed, costumes are discouraged. Dress accordingly to the outdoor weather and wear comfortable shoes for walking. This event is suitable for alll ages. Be there or be SCARED...
