ParkARTS Boston Children’s Festival | Aug. 23

Children and families from throughout Boston have the opportunity to participate in a variety of free activities from various exhibitors including Cambridge Science on the Street, a show by Rosalita’s Puppets, ParkARTS arts and crafts, the Bubble Guy, ReadBoston Storymobile, Mass Hort, Boston Children’s Museum, New England Aquarium, and more.  

The August 23 event will also include book giveaways from the ReadBoston Storymobile, exploring a Boston Fire Department fire truck, identification kits from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, a visit from the Boston Park Rangers Mounted Unit, face painting, dance performances, and free treats and giveaways from HP Hood LLC, Polar Beverages, the movie “Storks,” and Magic 106.7.

FREE USATF Youth Developmental Track & Field Meet | Aug. 10

The Boston Parks and Recreation is teaming up with USA Track & Field (USATF), Boston United Track & Cross-Country Club, and Youth Enrichment Services to present a free USATF Youth Developmental Meet with events for youth ages 5 to 14.

Events will include 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 mile, turbo javelin, long jump, shotput, and 4x100m relay.  Ribbons will be given for 1st through 6th place.  Madison Park High School is located at 55 Malcom X Blvd. in Roxbury.

Disco Night with Stardust at City Hall Plaza | Aug. 10

The always popular Stardust, a local super-group formed by gathering some of the most talented and experienced musicians in the entertainment industry and honed by over a decade of active rotation.  The band is in high demand and performs regularly at fine venues and hotels throughout the country. 

Led by bandleader Keith Kostick and singers Cecilia Colucci and Charles Clark, Stardust packs the dance floor at corporate events, weddings, and City Hall Plaza where revelers of all ages get to get up and boogie under the summer sky.  Stardust’s popularity at private events means that public appearances are limited, so this Disco Night is a rare treat for both the band and its fans.

Artist In Residence Workshops| July 21

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s annual ParkARTS program is making its return with endless children's art workshops, designed to express their creativity with local artist while doing fun projects such as jewelerery making, painting and making mask. Kids ages 3-10 are welcomed but younger children must be supervised by adult while in program and groups (of 6 or more) will have to make arrangements before the 21st by emailing  Parks@cityofboston.gov

Artist in Residence Craft Workshops | July 8

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s annual ParkARTS program presents a series of workshops that give kids the opportunity to express their creativity while working on fun projects with local artists. This workshop will go from 9am to noon at 1565 Dorchester Ave. Participation is free and all materials are provided, but young children must be accompanied by an adult. Franklin Park Improvements | May 21

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services invite the public to an update on ongoing improvements to pathways at Franklin Park. The proposed project includes renovations to selected pathways as defined in priority setting meetings back in 2012. If you are a community enthusiast, you won't want to miss this! Hearing to discuss tree removal on Centervale Park | December 5

Thursday, December 5 at 10:30am, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public hearing to discuss the proposed removal of one public shade tree at 11 Centervale Park in Dorchester.
 
The hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, in the 3rd floor Conference Room of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department located at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, Roxbury. The hearing will discuss an application to remove one Linden tree measuring 25 inches dbh (diameter at breast height) at 11 Centervale Park due to an application for a curb cut for a driveway.
