How to Avoid & Report Immigration Scams and Unlawful Practice of Immigration Law | May 19

Are you interested in becoming an American citizen?
Don’t be taken advantage of by notarios promising to speed up citizenship for a big fee. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will teach you how to spot and avoid scams. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

USCIS will be present at the Fields Corner Branch of the Boston Public Library. 

An immigration officer will:
1) answer general immigration questions on eligibility requirements and process.
2) Show how to find safe, low-cost, or no-cost assistance and legal advice.
3) Describe how to check on your application.

Dorchester Civic Forum | June 5

The June gathering of the Dorchester Civic Forum will discuss Immigration and Immigrants' Rights, focusing specifically on issues related to the recent federal executive orders (DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans & Lawful Permanent Residents)) and the path forward for neighbors in our community who are undocumented.

The members of engaged community groups and civic associations that have been working in their neighborhoods on specific projects are sharing their stories, and we welcome others to join us to learn more. Elected officials and their staff are welcome to attend, listen, and answer specific questions.

The Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians in partnership with community groups and legal service providers will be co-hosting (with Councilor LaMattina and the Student Immigration Movement) a free application clinic for individuals who are eligible to apply for one of Obama’s executive actions on immigration, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
