Mission: 

The Leahy-Holloran Community Center is a non-profit organization. The center has been serving the Dorchester Community since October 1973. We serve Pre-Schoolers, children, teens, adults and the elderly. During the academic year we offer Pre-School/K1, childrens' after school activities, adult classes and a teen center. Some of the programs currently available are swimming lessons for adults and children, children’s drawing classes, adult computer classes, sewing lessons, line dancing, water aerobics, adult and children ceramic classes. The name of the Murphy Community Center was changed to the Leahy-Holloran Community Center in 2009.

Youth Development Program - Phuongdai Nguyen - Youth Program Coordinator The Vietnamese-American Civic Association Youth Development Program’s mission is to prepare and provide newly arrived Vietnamese refugees and immigrant youth as well as youth living in and around the community of Dorchester a safe interactive-learning environment where they are exposed to a variety of issues and topics that are tailored to their interest in order for them to develop into healthy educated adults.

The Log School, founded by Joe Carpineto in 1974, is a settlement house which offers Dorchester an array of educational and social services. The goal of our dedicated staff is to provide services that will improve the lives of local residents and strengthen the community as a whole by implementing programs based on changing neighborhood needs.

Key Programs Offered: 

After School Program This program provides 6-12 year-olds with a safe haven after school and helps them advance in school through intensive academic assistance. The program runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. Ensuring children's safety aids families by giving their parents peace of mind to focus on work and education. Participants in this program and their parents are connected to additional support services within and outside of Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses' extensive system. Altogether, the Log School After School program offers a potent combination of academic encouragement, family support, risk reduction, and violence prevention.

Drop-In Child Care Center A drop-in childcare center for infants to children up to age 6 years old is available to parents enrolled in ESL classes, GED classes, or other activities at the Log School during the day.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Classes are available days and evenings, at all skill levels. Adult basic education and literacy classes are also available. Upper level classes include computer instruction.

Food Pantry The Food Pantry at Log School provides free weekly staple groceries on Fridays from 8 am to 9 am. Emergency food is available by appointment. There is no eligibility criteria or costs.

GED Preparation Classes Students from any neighborhood in Boston over the age of 18 can enroll in classes. Instruction is available daily at all skill levels.

Preschool Program Log School offers a fully licensed day care center providing children, ages 2.9 - 6 years, an innovative, multi-cultural curriculum.

All candidates for high school (grade 9) admission must fill out an application and take either the SSAT or Catholic High School Entrance Exam. All applicants for the Arrupe Division (grade 7) must fill out the Arrupe Division application and take the ISEE. Please pay special attention to the deadlines for each. Each fall we offer an Open House for grade 9 applicants, Information Nights for Arrupe applicants, and from October through February, we invite any interested 6th or 8th grader to spend the day with us as an "Eagle for a Day."

As a reflection of our Jesuit ideals and keeping with the school's founding principle's, we offer financial aid to qualifying families.It is our hope that our offers of need based financial aid open the doors of our school to young men who would not otherwise be able to fmfake the education offered by BC High a reality.
