Audition for The Nutcracker, Sep. 11

Tisn't the season just yet... but some Christmas shows have to get prepped far in advance! Children’s auditions for José Mateo’s Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker will take place at 10 a.m. on September 11, at the Strand Theatre (543 Columbia Road) in Uphams Corner. UCMS 2011 Annual Meeting, Oct. 25

Please join Upham's Corner Main Street for their 2011 Annual Meeting to learn about recent progress, meet members new and old, and weigh in on important issues! Members are eligible to vote in board elections, but all should come to see the unveiling of a new storefront office, recently completed strategic plan, and new UCMS initiatives. Want to join UCMS? Meet your neighbors while working hands-on to address problems in the Upham's Corner area. The Upham's Corner Safe Neighborhood Initiative will hold a neighborhood walkthrough on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. In light of recent civic and safety concerns - such as a murder at Humphreys Street - members will convene at the City School (Ramsey St. off of Dudley St.) at 6:30 p.m. on June 21 and walk through the community to identify problem areas for residents. Historic Property at 65 Pleasant StreetCommunity members are invited to attend a FREE Workshop presented by the Boston Preservation Alliance. Through a partnership of merchants, residents and civic leaders, our Main Street organization will make Upham’s Corner a thriving, multi-cultural, business and entertainment center that attracts people from all over Boston. UCMS was first created in 1996, when a group of passionate neighborhood residents, merchants, and civic leaders banded together to plan and manage the revitalization of the once vibrant Upham's Corner business and residential district. With a volunteer Board of Directors and a small but committed staff, UCMS set out to create new permanent jobs, an optimal mix of retail businesses, and shopping opportunities that fit the needs of residents.

Mission: 

CVC UNIDO promotes the power and the potential of the Cape Verdean community. We advocate for, inform, and organize our community to reach its cultural, social, and economic well-being.

CVC UNIDO’s mission is to outreach to, inform, and organize the Cape Verdean community around issues of self-empowerment and social and economic development while advocating for and accessing resources that meet the self-identified needs of the community. This mission is accomplished by a consortium of native Cape Verdean and Cape Verdean-American individuals and representatives of local organizations that serve the Cape Verdean community in Greater Boston through a series of different programs and activities that reach out to families and youth. Goals are to bring the Cape Verdean community together to develop our collective power and strategize solutions to current challenges; to create opportunities, and an environment, where youth and families can gain tools to empower themselves and the community; to improve family cohesion through developing nurturing and parenting skills; and to assure services delivered by local, municipal, and state agencies are coordinated and culturally competent.
