My Dot Tour Kicks Off! Tours Aug. 6, 7, 13, 14

My Dot Tour
The Fields Corner Collaborative is pleased to kick off My Dot Tour, a multimedia, youth-led walking tour of Fields Corner in Dorchester this August! The free tours will take place Saturday August 6 and 13 at 11 a.m. and on Sunday August 7 and 14 at 4 p.m. Tours depart from Gallagher Insurance (~1471 Dorchester Ave) and Pho Hoa (1356 Dorchester Avenue) will host a reception after each tour where participants can cool off indoors and enjoy delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Last year the Friends groups citywide stopped the closure of several branch libraries. Now elected officials from city to state support the maintenance of all Boston libraries. 

The library wants to reorganize its friends group. Your presence is valuable. Please come to the meeting and bring your suggestions. There is no fee to become a Friend of the Fields Corner library and there are many volunteer opportunities. The Fields Corner Branch Library is located at 1520 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester. DFSI Evening of Celebration, Jun. 16

DFSICelebrate the end of another successful school year while raising funds for the next! The annual "DFSI Evening of Celebration" will take place on Thursday, June 16 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Blarney Stone (1505 Dorchester Ave) in Fields Corner. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Dorchester FAMILY School Initiative, a partnership of DotWell and local elementary schools: the Joseph Lee, Lee Academy, Holmes, and Fifield Schools. Tickets to the event are $10, and all proceeds directly benefit the partner elementary schools. Attached, please find the event invitation. Feel free to share with family, friends, and colleagues – all are welcome!

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Fields Corner Building Renovation, May 25

Fields Corner Main StreetPlease join Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Historic Boston Incorporated and Fields Corner Main Street on Wednesday, May 25 at 2 p.m. for a celebration of the completion of the renovation of the Golden Building at 1510-1514 Dorchester Avenue. This high-impact façade rehabilitation is the first historic building renovation project of the Historic Neighborhood Centers Program, a collaboration between HBI and FCMS. Public Safety Meeting @ Viet-AID, May 23

Viet-AIDPublic safety concerns will be the topic of a Monday evening in Fields Corner. Viet-AID is sponsoring the meeting, which will take place at 6 p.m. Monday at the Vietnamese-American Community Center on Charles Street. The meeting is prompted by what Viet-AID calls a “rash” of violence and thefts in that area. To join the community discussion, come to 42 Charles Street on Mon, May 23 at 6:00 p.m.

Kite TalesOn Saturday, April 30, break in the warm weather with a kite flight! The first My Dot Tour event of the summer will celebrate the newly cleaned district of Fields Corner following the Boston Shines Community Cleanup event by sending local history skyward. Celebrate your community and history by flying a kite bearing your Fields Corner story from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Town Field (corner of Dorchester Ave. and Park St.) Submit a story on www.MyDotTour.org, at the Fields Corner Library or at Fun Tea Cafe before April 30 and collect a kite day-of.
