 Every Thursday join Boston Center for Youth and Families for live music, face painting, fun, activities, food, and swimming. Each week is hosted by a different community center but there are ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT

Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar | December 14

Join in the holiday spirit at the BCYF Leahy-Holloran Community Center (1 Worrell street), Saturday, December 14 starting at 3pm for the Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar.
 
There will be great vendors crafts, refreshments, and activities the whole family will enjoy.
 
Admission for adults $3 and $2 for children
 
10am-12:30pm Kids craft corner
1pm-3pm Visit from Santa Claus
 
Including a free raffle for 10 family passes to Frozen Fenway!

Summer Resource Fair | April 24

Don't miss the Summer Resource Fair at the Leahy Holloran Community Center on April 24 from 7pm to 9pm. This family event will include free pizza and free childcare for the little ones. Some of the attending programs include Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, Camp Fire USA, Harbor Discoveries, Boston Centers for Youth and Families, and many more.

Care Package Drive | Nov. 3

On November 3, from 9am to 1pm, the Leahy-Holloran Community Center is fundraising in honor of Veteran's Day and the men and women serving overseas. If you know a local serviceman or woman who will be overseas to receive a card package, or if you are interested in volunteering, email cball346@comcast.net or call 617-635-5150

 

Summer Fun @ Garvey Park

Come to Garvey Park this summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm for kick ball and other playground games. Meet outside skate rink! Open to boys and girls grades 4 to 8.
 
Come to Garvey Park from July 17 to August 30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6pm to 8pm. There will be an arts program for kids ages 6 to 10 located in the outfield. This is a FREE program, but space is limited. Email philip.carver@popeshill.com to secure a spot!

DSAC Presents "Learning to Cope" | June 19

Tuesday, June 19th from 6-8pm at the Leahy~Holloran Community Center, 
Dorchester Substance Abuse Coalition (DSAC) 
will host “Learning to Cope”, a forum for parents and teens with several guest speakers, including local men and women in recovery and Ms. Joanne Peterson from www.learntocope.org.

Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness meeting, March 20

Did you know that 1 in 5 teens have abused prescription drugs? 70% of teens get prescription drugs from families and friends. On March 20th, the Dorchester Substance Abuse Coalition meeting will focus on what youth, parents, and guardians need to know, presented by Helen Connolly, RN, BSN. The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 PM, at Leahy-Holloran Community Center, 1 Worrell Street in Dorchester, MA 02122. RSVP by Friday, March 16, 2012. 1st Annual Leahy Holloran Polar Bear Plunge, Jan. 1

*TIME OF EVENT CHANGED FROM 8AM TO 4PM DUE TO TIDES*

In memory of Brian Leahy, the Leahy Holloran Community Center will be hosting their 1st Annual Polar Bear Plunge! Startoff the New Year with a very chilly swim at the beach. On Sunday, January 1, 2012 (New Year's Day) the plunge will happen at 4:00pm at Tenean Beach, Neponset. $25 admission will include a pancake breakfast, and the first 50 people registered will receive a Polar Bear Plunge Hooded Sweatshirt! Dorchester Substance Abuse Coalition Meeting Dec. 6

The Dorchester Substance Abuse Coalition will be hosting a Community Meeting on Tuesday, December 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Leahy-Holloran Community Center. The Leahy-Holloran Community Center is located at 1 Worrell Street in Dorchester, 02122. The meeting will feature special guests - Mr. Adam Butler, Executive Director of the Needle Exchange Program from the Boston Public Health Commission, Bureau of Addiction's Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Services. Adam Butler will be presenting NARCAN, a powerful tool in overdose prevention. The meeting will also feature The improbably PLAYERS, a fun theater group that will be enacting a ten-minute play to inspire young people to think and talk about the impact of substance abuse on their lives, friends, family, and community. The group also touches on real possibilities for change.
