Grove Hall Branch Holiday Celebration Dec. 22

On Thursday, December 22, the Grove Hall Branch of the Boston Public Library will be hosting a winter celebration from 6 to 7:30 PM! Join neighbors for hot cocoa, cider, cookies, and crafts to celebrate the winter season. A fun, free event for the entire family: everyone is welcome. Grove Hall Branch Holiday Open House Dec. 10

On Saturday, December 10, 2011, Friends of the Grove Hall Branch Library will be hosting a Holiday Open House and Book Sale from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.! Grove Hall Branch is located at 41 Geneva Avenue in Dorchester. The open house will include a book sale, raffle, prizes, and refreshments. This is a great opportunity to join the Friends of the Library, meet your neighbors, pick up some good books, and enjoy the party! The event is free of cost. "Eating Healthy on a Budget Workshop" Dec. 1

On December 1st @ 6:30pm, the Grove Hall Branch will be hosting a free workshop on healthy and affordable eating! Learn tips for eating well while saving money. Learn how to modify common recipes to make them healthier. Play an interactive nutrition game. This workshop will be led by community nutritionist Lauren Johnson from Community Servings. Grove Hall SBA Workshop Dec. 1

This event has been RESCHEDULED. It was originally scheduled for November 3rd, and is now going to be taking place on December 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Grove Hall Branch is holding a FREE workshop designed to help prospective or current entrepreneurs gain better understanding of various SBA programs and services that are available to prospective and current entrepreneurs who need assistance in starting or expanding their businesses. Civil War Dress Discussion Oct. 27

Barbara Pugliese, an expert on dance and costumes from the 19th century, will be discussing dress from the Civil War on October 27 at the Grove Hall Branch Library. She will be discussing the practical and fashionable sides of dress during the time period. The event is part of the Boston Public Library's efforts to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Civil War Book Discussion Oct. 12

On October 12th, at 4:00 p.m., Barbara F. Berenson will be discussing her new book, Walking Tours of Civil War Boston: Hub of Abolitionism at the Grove Hall Branch. The book outlines four routes visitors can walk in Boston to encounter lesser-known historical sites, for instance, a fugitive slave couthouse that once stood on Court Street. The guide also highlights the civil war significance of spots on the Freedom Trail such as Faneuil Hall where abolitionists and slave owners debated the future of slavery. >> Read More

National “Dot Day” Story and Artsy Afternoon, Sep. 15

Vashti believes that she cannot draw, but her art teacher's encouragement leads her to change her mind. You, too, can discover how the mind can foster beautiful artistic creation! Come to the Grove Hall Branch Library from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 15 to celebrate Peter Reynolds' book, The Dot, and learn about art and imagination. Then, make your very own dot to be displayed in the library! Meet in the Grove Hall Children's Activity Room.

"A World of Bridges" at Grove Hall, Aug. 11

Bridge"A World of Bridges" is coming to Grove Hall Branch Library on Thursday, August 11, 2011! This Museum of Science program allows kids to construct bridges as they are done all over the world. Children ages 4-10 will find this program very exciting. Shows are at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Grove Hall Open Mic, May 26

The Grove Hall Branch Library and Grove Hall Community Center Open Mic Night present a Poetry/Rap Slam featuring local artist Arthur Collins! The public is encouraged to sign up and participate!
