"Raising Children in a Violent World" Presentation, Jun. 15

Many children are exposed to violence, be it in the media, in their community or in their own homes. Parents, extended family, and other important adults in children’s lives can play a key role in protecting them. Please join Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester June 15 for a Presentation on "Raising Children in a Violent World," 6:30 p.m. at Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, 1135 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA.

This presentation will focus on the violence in children’s lives and identify the effects of witnessing violence of children. Chubb Rock presents: "Passing the Mic", Jun. 23

Old-school rappers will be performing alongside talented Dorchester youth, ages 10-15, on June 23 when the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club hosts “Passing the Mic.” 80s and 90s rap stars Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Gizmo and Milk Dee of Audio 2, Joeski Love, and guest host Celtics center Glen “Big Baby” Davis will be headlining the event. Come watch talented locals get the opportunity to collaborate with established rap artists at the historical Strand Theatre in Uphams Corner. Outreach Event for Children and Families, Jun. 4

BGC DorchesterPlease join the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester on June 4, 2011 for an outreach event directed at children and families. This fun and social event features games, music, literacy activities, free dental screenings, opportunities to meet other families, a school bus tour for "first-time riders," refreshments and much more. Event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, 1135 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA 02125. Is your child going to Kindergarten? Community Fundraiser Benefit Breakfast

Community members are invited to attend a "Community Fundraiser Benefit Breakfast" fundraiser which will focus on community policing and its impact on Boston neighborhoods. Proceeds will benefit the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club and B-3 Community Service events. The breakfast will take place on Saturday, April 30, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club, 15 Talbot Avenue, Dorchester, MA. "Boys and Girls Planting for Health," Apr. 6

Nature's Sustainers, a community relations class from Boston University, will host "Boys and Girls Planting for Health" at the Boys and Girls Club of Boston's Blue Hill Club on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 starting at 9 a.m. With the aid of the BU group, Blue Hill Club will build a working garden to teach its members about responsibility, healthy living, sustainability and the slow food movement.

Nature's Sustainers will build Blue Hill Club raised bed gardens and provide the Club with necessary gardening tools. The group of 10 students, four graduate and six undergraduate, will do this by finding sponsorships and partnerships as well as soliciting monetary and in-kind donations. In addition, Nature's Sustainers will bring in individuals from local organizations and businesses to talk to the staff and members of Blue Hill Club about the importance of the slow food movement and healthy living. For more information, contact Laura Castro at l.c.castr@gmail.com or (413) 210-8627. 

Berklee Service Festival Partners Musicians with Local Youth

The Movement@Berklee, a student-led community outreach group, is launching its first ever service festival, the Lead the Change Festival on March 22. Berklee students, faculty, staff, and alumni volunteers - and special guests like Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton - will conduct clinics and performances at the group's partner organizations around the city, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester and the Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club.  >> Read More

Connecting youth with music and opportunity: The Dorchester Music Clubhouse, located at the Paul R. McLaughlin Youth Center, is a place where music, fun, education, and expression come together. Come in and learn to play an instrument, practice what you know, start a band, record or write a song, meet your friends, or make new ones. See a performance, talk about your favorite music, hear new music, or take part in a workshop. Don’t forget about performances and field trips.

 

The Dorchester Music Clubhouse is also a gateway into the amazing City Music Program, sponsored by Berklee College of Music for Middle School and High School students to prepare for a Berklee Education!

Clubhouse Idol Competition, Mar. 10 - Apr. 8

The Dorchester Clubhouse (at Boys and Girls Club(s) of Dorchester) welcomes singers ages 10-18 to register for Clubhouse Idol--Dorchester's own rendition of the famed "American Idol" competition. Open auditions for Clubhouse Idol will take place Thursday, March 10 (Walter Denney Youth Center, 270 Mount Vernon Street) & Friday, March 11 (Clubhouse at the 1135 Dorchester Avenue Paul R. McLaughlin Youth Center). Please arrive at 5:30 p.m. Feel free to join the Audition Party in the BGC Dorchester Teen Center while you wait for your audition. 

Subsequent rounds will take place March 25 and April 8 at the Music Clubhouse. Contest winner will perform at Berklee College of Music on Saturday, May 14.
