Defend, Don't Offend! | August 8 + 15

Close to Home is hosting a march to prevent domestic violence. This march will specifically deal with "street hollering." Street hollering are unwelcomed words and actions by strangers in public places that invade a person's physical and emotional space in a disrespectful, creepy or insulting manor. Community Health Forum at Dorchester House, Jun. 21

Dorchester House Multi-Service CenterIt's time to talk about Dorchester. Come to the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center (1353 Dorchester Avenue) on Tuesday, June 21 for a discussion of the health issues affecting the neighborhood, with a special focus on obesity, hepatitis and diabetes. The forum, free of charge, will take place from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. A light dinner will be provided. Join the Boston Public Health Commission, Eaton Apothecary and CVS Pharmacy, in partnership with Close to Home, Hospice of Boston and Greater Brockton, Mujeres Unidas en Acción, Viet-AID and the Vietnamese-American Women's League of Massachusetts and vicinities in buildling a safe and healthy Dorchester!

Vagina Monologues Benefits Close to Home, May 20

The Massachusetts American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists & VDay Campaign are sponsoring a performance of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler which will benefit Close to Home. Come to the Oberon Theatre on Friday, May 21 to see moving performances by the Brigham Women's & MGH OBGYN Residents. Paper Bag Art Benefits Close 2 Home, Apr. 11 to May 20

Dorchester artist Richard Inonog is partnering with non-profit Close to Home in his most recent installation, "Take the message Home," at The Boston Common Coffee Co. on Salem Street in the North End. Sale of the artwork will benefit the organization's mission to foster community-wide responsibility to prevent and reduce the impact of domestic violence in Dorchester.

The installation, which is currently on display and running through May 20, 2011, is a collection of 19 hand-painted paper bags featuring the faces of famous women including: Angela Davis, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis and wild animals. Mission: 

Close to Home is a resident-driven domestic violence prevention and community organizing campaign based in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. Close to Home aims to prevent domestic violence and get help for those affected by educating, supporting, and developing leadership from the existing network of friends, family and neighbors. Close to Home is also working to mobilize the neighborhood's civic life, through dialogue and problem solving, to address domestic violence as a priority community issue in Dorchester.
