National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Luncheon

Tuesday, February 7 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and you are invited to join a free Luncheon at 12:00pm in the Great Hall at Codman Square Health Center to celebrate the strength of the Black community in the face of HIV. This event seeks to eliminate stigma and raise further awareness around treatment, testing and risks related to HIV.

Let your voice be heard as we connect neighbors to join the fight and Stand Together

We’ll talk about how our families, homes, and community shaped our sense of safety. Join community activist from TNT United/ Boston Project Ministries, community service officers from the Boston Police Department, and more. We also want to hear from you: What does public safety mean to you? How do we make Codman Sq & Four Corners safer?

No boring presentation, only story telling and open dialogue! Free food and music too!

Jamaica Independence Arts Week

4 days full of Caribbean style fun! Celebrating Jamaica's Fifty Forth Year of independence with games, dance, music, and stories! 

August 3 at 6pm in the CSHC, Black Box: Jamaican Riddles; Duppy and Anancy Stories; Jamaican Proverbs; Folk Lore; Duppy Songs. Come prepared to tell a riddle or story

August 5 at 6pm in CSHC, Great Hall: Folk Songs by JCDS, Anancy Stories, and dialect verse, bring the children to play and learn Jamaican song and ring games.

August 6 at 11am in the CSHC, Great Hall: Jamaica Independence Day Celebration.

August 7 at 5pm at 209 Ashmont St: JDCS, Young Performers, Harmonica Players, Singers, Poetry readers, other musical instrumentalists.

Codman Square Health Center Public Annual Meeting | June 15

You are invited to hear from guest speakers Attorney General Maura Healey and Health Secretary Marylou Sudders as Codman Square Health Center recap the past year of work in Codman Square. We will also recognize the critical work of our current Board President and longtime Board Member, Marva Serotkin. Dinner will be provided.

Free Blackbird Movie Showing | June 8

Blackbird tackles the growing pains of a young, Black, spiritual queer adolescent as he comes to terms with his understanding of his sexual identity, while still struggling to love God and those around him. Following the screening,  have a facilitated discussion on spirituality, sexuality, and race as it relates to this film as well as our everyday experiences. This movie is rated R and you must be 18+ to attend.

SCI Breakfast | May 25

There will be a free breakfast and conversation with SCI (Social Capital Inc.) President David Crowley, SCI AmeriCorps members, and partners at Codman Square Health Center. They will be discussing SCI's inspiring mission and programming, in Dorchester and throughout Eastern Massachusetts. 

SCI’s mission is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. 

Jay Ash, Secretary for Housing and Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, will join to offer some introductory remarks about social capital.

Come learn about how ways to get involved with SCI, including volunteering, being an SCI AmeriCorps host site or SCI AmeriCorps member, serving on our Board of Directors, or donating vital funds.

Narcan Training | April 28

Please join Four Corners Main Street and Codman Square NDC for a Free Narcan Training. 

In the past year, Massachusetts communities have seen a spike in the number of nonfatal opioid overdose and deaths. Since 2007, more than 3,200 people in Boston have received training on how to administer Narcan, a medication sed to reverse and prevent opioid overdose. Narcan has been credited with reversing nearly 400 overdoses in Boston in recent years. Statewide, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health estimates that 2,000 lives have been saved due to Narcan.

At this training, which is conducted by the Boston Public Health Commission, participants will learn about the importance of calling 9-1-1 in the event of an overdose, how to perform rescue breathing and administer nasal Narcan and treatment options to opioid users.
