Pink and Black Free Workshop Oct 22

Pink isn't the only color associated with Breast Cancer. Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among Black women? Pink and Black Ambassadors are breast cancer patients and survivors who wish to end this health disparity by speaking out about prevention, treatment and survivorship. Pink & Black are hosting a FREE workshop at Codman Square Health Center in Conference Room A on Saturday, October 22 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  The First TEN participants receive a Pink & Black hat! Men of Boston Cook for Women’s Health, Sep. 22

Codman Square Health Center will proudly present its annual fundraising event, Men of Boston Cook for Women’s Health 2011, on Thursday evening, September 22, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m., to raise funds and awareness to improve women’s health in our community. The Health Center is dedicated to reducing health disparities in diseases such as breast cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Each year, more than 1,000 supporters gather under the Gala Tent at 637 Washington St. in Dorchester, to enjoy delectable samplings from Boston’s finest restaurants, served by celebrity male chefs who represent a veritable "who's who" from Boston’s business, political, entertainment and hospitality worlds.

National Urban League Conference, Jul. 27 to Jul. 30

National Urban LeagueCodman Square Health Center is proud to be a part of the Civic Engagement Committee for this year’s National Urban League Conference in Boston (July 27-30). "During one critical and dynamic week in July, Boston will make history," said Darnell Williams, President and CEO, Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts. "For the first time in 35 years, the National Urban League Conference will provide Boston with a platform to show the country that we are a friendly and culturally diverse city that appreciates the strengths and benefits of an inclusive society. City approves several Dorchester-based projects

Codman Square Health CenterFrom Boston.com's YourTown: Dorchester projects finally won approval from the Boston Redevelopment Authority's board on June 17. The projects include a health and education center, affordable housing and more. One of the biggest projects is a health and education center between the Codman Square Health Center and the Codman Academy Public Charter School. This project includes a 34,000 square foot addition. Last year, the project received a $7.95 million federal grant. Another big project in Quincy Heights includes 129 public housing units in Grove Hall. Nine apartment buildings will be renovated and 80 new units will be installed. On top of that, 11 new buildings will be built, adding 49 new units. The project will cost about $53.1 million and will be 156,817 square feet. Another project, the Columbia Point Master Plan, was approved after three years of public review. Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) Community Meeting, Jun. 1

Codman Square Health CenterThe Codman Square Health and Education Center building project requires approval by the BRA. This project is a capital expansion project for the Codman Square Health Center and Codman Academy Charter School. The BRA process requires that a Community Meeting be held to discuss this project. That meeting is being held on Wednesday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room A, at the Codman Square Health Center, located at 637 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA.

Training on AIDS and LGBT Community, Jun. 3

New England AIDS Education and Training CenterThe Medical Community is invited to attend a free New England AIDS Education Training Center session on Friday, June 3rd,  from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Conference Room A of Codman Square Health Center, 637 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA. New England AIDS Education Training Center will return to present an AIDS/LGBT discussion led by Dr. Alex Gonzalez, MD, MPH. Participants will learn how to relate cultural variations that exist for LGBT patients to the potential impact on their access to primary care, create a welcoming, inclusive, clinical environment optimizing the delivery of primary care to LGBT populations and much more.
