Dorchester Open Studios Invites Performers, Application Deadline Sep. 2

Interested in performing or showing unique art forms during the annual Dorchester Open Studios event? This year's Open Studios 2011 (October 22 and 23) will include not only the largest collection of visual artists in Open Studios history, but also two days of performance art. Dancers, singers, poets, actors, writers, filmmakers, and musicians are all invited to participate. Write the Dorchester Arts Collaborative at info@dac-online.org by September 2 with a brief description of your presentation; include video, website links, etc., to give us an idea of your art. On June 26th, a screening of the original film, Saturday by Paloma Valenzuela will take place at Studio D, 11 Pearl Street in Dorchester. "Empathy and The Other," DAC Breakfast, Jun. 24

DACThe next Dorchester Arts Collaborative takes place on June 24! At this DAC Breakfast, writer Aaron Devine will lead an exploration of "Empathy and the Other." Where does empathy come from? Can it be developed? How do artists truly represent what lies outside their own background or culture? Come to 11 Pearl Street, Dorchester, MA from 8 to 9:30 a.m. to find out. A continental breakfast will be served.

In this workshop, participants will fuel a discussion of empathy and The Other using examples from photography, painting, and literature. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring in their own examples - from any medium - that resonate with this topic. DAC Workshop on Social Media, Apr. 30

So you want to start a blog? Jump on the social media bandwagon! Join the Dorchester Arts Collaborative on Saturday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Studio D, 11 Pearl Street, in Dorchester for a workshop on the basics of setting up a blog. The group will discuss the reasons for starting a blog, how to do it, what to say, and other topics. Show DAC your blog and ask for suggestions; DAC will displays theirs. Bring your laptop to work or leave it at home and just watch Coffee and pastries will be provided. You can register here. DAC Breakfast Redux, May 13

The Dorchester Arts Collaborative will hold their next breakfast on May 13, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at a location to be announced. The breakfast is $5 for members for coffee, tea, fruit and pastries and $8 for non-members. This edition of the breakfast will focus on a Branding/Marketing Exercise: How does my art affect people? How is it unique? Who is my audience? How can I better pitch my art? Where are the best places to market my art?

Join DAC for marketing/branding exercise that will provide answers and guidelines. Bring up to 5 samples of your work for the group. Get and give feedback anonymously via a survey/questionaire. DAC "4th" Friday at HallSpace, Apr. 29

Bebe Beard at HallSpaceCome to the Dorchester Arts Collaborative's April 5th Friday at HallSpace with works by Bebe Beard on April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. If you have not visited HallSpace yet, this is a perfect opportunity! This is DAC's traditional potluck event, so bring something for the table.  Wine and sparkling water provided.
