Food Coop Potluck Get-Together, Aug. 25

Collaborate for food access; cooperate for community. The Dorchester Community Food Co-op will hold a Pot Luck Dinner and general get together at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 25 at the Nightingale Community Garden—recently renovated by the Boston Natural Area Network near the corner of Park St. and Washington St. in Dorchester. The garden is alive with activity, and is a model for creating a space that brings together the full diversity of Dorchester residents. Please come and bring friends and neighbors who are interested in a Food Co-op in Dorchester!

Louis D. Brown Peace Garden Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Jul. 29

Come to Winthrop Elementary School on Friday, July 29 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for the Louis D. Brown Peace Garden Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. This event features a special performance by ASW Youth, a community partners appreciation ceremony, the Louis D. Brown Peace garden dedication and a special luncheon. Nightingale Community Garden Grand Opening, Aug. 6

Nightingale Community GardenYou are invited to the Nightingale Community Garden Grand Opening on Saturday, August 6, 2011! Join Mayor Thomas M. Menino, gardeners, neighbors, supporters and special guests at 12:30 p.m. to celebrate the inaugural season of bounty at the expanded and renovated Community Garden. Explore 130 individual garden plots full of vegetables, herbs and flowers. My Dot Tour Kicks Off! Tours Aug. 6, 7, 13, 14

My Dot Tour
The Fields Corner Collaborative is pleased to kick off My Dot Tour, a multimedia, youth-led walking tour of Fields Corner in Dorchester this August! The free tours will take place Saturday August 6 and 13 at 11 a.m. and on Sunday August 7 and 14 at 4 p.m. Tours depart from Gallagher Insurance (~1471 Dorchester Ave) and Pho Hoa (1356 Dorchester Avenue) will host a reception after each tour where participants can cool off indoors and enjoy delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Dot Bike Summer Meeting, Jul. 27

Celebrate warm, "bikey" weather with an enjoyable evening of bike talk and mingling! DotBike will hold their Summer Meeting on Wednesday, July 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. There's a number of hot topics for updates, and of course the more informal chatting the better. DotBike has been involved in various projects and is excited to share updates and discuss. Additionally, the group needs your help with some important tasks. What’s on Brookwood Farm? Aug. 24

Brookwood Farm has historically been both farmland and wetland. What are the special native plants of this part of the Reservation and what threatens them? Join a naturalist on Wednesday, August 24, at 6:00 p.m. to explore this historically and ecologically significant portion of the Reservation. Meet at Brookwood Farm, 11 Blue Hill River Rd., Canton, MA.

Dorchester Community Gardens Bicycle Tour, Aug. 6

BikeJoin Dot Bike, Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition and Boston Natural Areas Network and explore Dorchester’s Community Gardens from your bicycle on Saturday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. The 2.5 hour tour begins at the Charles Street entrance to the Fields Corner MBTA station and will visit four community gardens and pass by several other gardens. The highlight of the ride will be when the group stops to experience the grand opening of Nightingale Community Garden, Dorchester’s newest and largest community garden. Enjoy cycling through Dorchester and visiting Community Gardens along the way. Riders will meet gardeners and learn about each garden's history, and current activities.

Co-sponsored by DotBike and the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition. Helmets are required. A guardian must accompany children under 14. Program is free but requires registration. To register, contact BNAN at 617-542-7696 or info@bostonnatural.org.

Dorchester House Farmers' Market Opens, Jun. 28

SOS FarmDorchester House Multi-Service Center is proud to welcome two local agricultural groups with social missions back to its weekly farmers market in Fields Corner. The market will provide locally grown produce and information on nutrition, food stamps, WIC and other community organizations to the Dorchester Community. The Dorchester House Farmers Market will be held on Ellet Street next to the health center on Dorchester Avenue.
