On Sunday, April 27 the Dorchester will host a program at the William Clapp House located at 195 Boston Street in Dorchester. This event will begin at 2 pm. The Stars and Stripes of American Music Program will host Wheaton College Professor Delvyn Case who will explore the music of three American homegrown composers - Charles Ives, Aaron Copland, and George Gershwin - and how they forged a uniquely American style of classical music that incorporated the folk and popular music they heard across the country. Devlyn Case is a composer, conductor, scholar, performer, and educator who has taught at many colleges and universities

Historical Society Holiday Open House

 
 
 
Sunday, December 8 at 2pm there will be a Holiday Open House at Dorchester Historical Society, at William Clapp House, 195 Boston St. Dorchester MA.
 
There will be food raffles, items for sale and holiday festivities the family will enjoy. Diane Taraz will sing music from the Victorian era, and talk about where the songs originated from.

Third Annual Farm Day | October 6

This family event is to join Dorchester Historical Society (195 Boston Street Dorchester, MA 02125) and the Roger Clap Innovation School to celebrate the agricultural history of Dorchester. They will have pony rides, kids activities, a scavenger hunt and an archeological activity to celebrate archeology month in Massachusetts. There will also be a bake sale and raffle items to support the Roger Clap Innovation School.

DHS Holiday Party | Dec. 9

 

The Dorchester HIstorical Society (195 Boston Street, Dorchester) will be hosting a holiday party on Sunday December 9. The party will include food, refreshments and holiday music to put you in the holiday spirit! You can also get holiday gifts at the shop! Admission to the party is a donation of any amount. Archaeology of Dorchester MA | Oct 21

DHS Archaeology TalkAll are invited to this free Dorchester Historical Society program, happening during Open Studios weekend, with City of Boston Archaeologist, Joe Bagley.

Explore the archaeological heritage of Dorchester, Mass. Sites include the historic Blake House, Dorchester Pottery kiln, several Native American sites, Savin Hill, and the industrial heritage of Boston's oldest and most dynamic neighborhood. Plein Aire Painting | August 25, Sept. 1 + 9

Join the artists at Dorchester Historical Society for Plein Aire Paint Sessions. Theory and Critique will be provided by Vincent Crotty. The Art Sessions take place on August 25, September 1 and September 9 from 2pm to 7pm. Each session will begin with theory, demonstrations and discussions. This will be followed by the painting and a final critique. All levels are welcomed. Students must provide their own materials. The sessions will take place at 195 Boston Street, Dorchester MA. Dorchester Historical Society Gala | Oct. 12

Celebrate the past, savor the present, support the future! The Dorchester Historical Society invites you to the DHS Gala on October 12. The Gala will start off at 6pm with cocktails, followed by a dinner at 7:30pm. At 8pm, there will be a live auction! The Gala will be at Venezia Waterfront Restaurant (20 Ericsson St, Dorchester MA). St. Botolph's Town: Boston, England & Boston, Massachusetts | June 30

On Saturday, June 30th at 10:00 am, The Dorchester Historical Society will be hosting a discussion of St. Botolph's Town: Boston, England, and Boston, Massachusetts. Wilfred Holton will discuss St. Botolph's Town: Boston, England the Founding of Our Boston. The talk will also feature a few notes from Earl Taylor about Dorchester, England, and Dorchester, Massachusetts.

This illustrated talk features the town of Boston, Lincolnshire that is the Mother Town of Boston, Massachusetts. The talk describes the center of Puritan religious activity that supplied political and religious leaders to the Massachusetts Bay Colony during its early Colonial period. Historical images and modern photos show sites in the town of Boston that have importance for the founding of our Boston, including the over 700 year-old St. Botolph's Church where Reverend John Cotton preached before coming to Massachusetts in 1633.

Dorchester Artists Past & Present Opening Reception | June 29

On Friday, June 29, Dorchester Historical Society will be hosting the opening reception for the exhibit Dorchester Artists: Past & Present put on by Dorchester Historical Society and Dorchester Arts Collaborative. The show will continue through Saturday and Sunday, during other Dorchester Historical Society events!
