4th Cops-4-Charity Cook-Off Sep. 23

Cook-OffThe Boston Police Department, District B-2, will be raising money to support children who need their support. So, this Friday, September 23rd, join them for a Cook-Off! Sample a variety of delicious foods for just a $10 donation towards a good cause. The event will be from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Boston Police Post, 500 Morton St. in Dorchester (American Legion Highway). Fresh Fruits and VeggiesAs part of an ongoing effort to increase access to affordable, fresh food in Boston, the City of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development has solicited proposals from qualified farmers to cultivate on two City properties in Dorchester. Join the DND as these farmers present their proposals.

A proposal for development of 131 Glenway St. will be presented on Thursday, September 29, at 6:00 p.m. This community meeting will take place at the Erie Ellington Community Center, 31 Erie St., Dorchester, MA. A second proposal regarding 23-29 Tucker St. will be presented on Tuesday, October 4, at 6:45 p.m. The second meeting will be heled in the Great Hall at Codman Square, 6 Norfolk St. Dorchester, MA. Come walk, talk, eat, dance, learn, laugh and stay healthy! Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association (GBSCDA) will hold the 6th Annual "Sickle Cellebration in the Park" Walk & Health Fair on Saturday, September 17th, 2011. The fair, which takes place in Franklin Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., features peformances, music, food and dance, free health screenings and a "Walk-A-Thon." Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the Walk-a-Thon kicks off at 12 p.m.

Food Coop Potluck Get-Together, Aug. 25

Collaborate for food access; cooperate for community. The Dorchester Community Food Co-op will hold a Pot Luck Dinner and general get together at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 25 at the Nightingale Community Garden—recently renovated by the Boston Natural Area Network near the corner of Park St. and Washington St. in Dorchester. The garden is alive with activity, and is a model for creating a space that brings together the full diversity of Dorchester residents. Please come and bring friends and neighbors who are interested in a Food Co-op in Dorchester!
