Social Determinants that Influence Emergency Preparedness | Feb 11

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity in the City of Boston is on the rise. This course will provide an overview of the social determinants of health and vulnerability that influence differences in health status throughout Boston neighborhoods and shape health outcomes after emergencies.

Participants will learn how health inequities amongst communities lead to a disproportionate exposure and impact from emergencies. Boston MRC members and the general public will be equipped with the knowledge needed to understand the needs of diverse communities while supporting response and recovery operations in the City of Boston after an emergency.

Forum on Social Capital and Health | May 8

Dr. Sandro Galea

Social Capital Inc.(SCI)  is excited to announce an SCI Forum on Social Capital and Health. The forum will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sandro Galea, Dean of Boston University School of Public Health. Galea’s keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion on the links between social capital and health outcomes featuring local health practitioners, public officials, philanthropists, and community health advocates. Finally, over lunch, attendees will break into small groups to discuss ways to encourage and sustain a culture of health through increased social capital and collaboration.

The Forum is free but requires pre-registration

Health Of South Dorchester | August 6,2014

Spring Into Action: April Fitness Camp | April 22-25

From April 22 to the 25th, Sociedad Latina and BCYF Tobin Community Center will host Spring into Action: April Fitness Camp. This camp will take place from 12-5 pm at the BCYF Tobin Community Center located at 1481 Tremont Street in Roxbury. This camp is for children ages 6-18. This camp is free to the public and will host an abundance of activities including dance, basketball, cooking, yoga, arts and crafts, healthy eating, martial arts, and more. Boston Alliance for Community Health Speak Up! Event

Boston Alliance for Community Health (BACH) is partnering with 10 organizations to host a 2-day cross neighborhood conversation on community health in North Dorchester. Bowdoin Geneva, Fields Corner, Grove Hall, and Uphams Corner share many of the same community concerns around mental wellness, domestic violence, sexual health, and community violence. These neighborhoods have a wealth of resources, including great health centers, active community organizations, and diverse residents building the community's resiliency.The goal of BACH is to improve the coordination of systems that focuses on the key issues as a way to build community resilience and quality of life. The first day of the conversation will take place on Thursday, March 6th from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at Viet Aid located at 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. Super Foods and You | January 30

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 3:30pm, the Uphams Corner Library located at 500 Columbia Rd. in Dorchester will host Super Foods and You.

Uphams Corner Health Center's Nutritionist Molly Warner will introduce Super Foods: Simple, inexpensive foods that revitalize the brain and heart. She'll also share a snack made from Super Foods.

Free Flu Clinic | December 12

Codman Square Health Center is offering a free public flu clinic to the community on Thursday, December 12 from 1pm to 4pm.


The flu clinic is in partnership with the Boston Public Health Commission and is being run in honor of National Influenza Vaccination Week.
