Foliage Photo Workshop on the Neponset Oct. 15

Learn photography techniques and stroll along the Neponset River to photograph and see some great foliage first hand! Martha McDonough, an avid nature photographer and Readville resident, will guide a tour along the Neponset River. On Saturday October 15th at 2:00 p.m., the group will meet at Martini Shell Park, Truman Parkway, Hyde Park, and begin with some basic techniques focusing on composition and the use of light. MassBike Spin Series & MetroFuture Neponset Greenway Bike Ride, Sep. 17

Join MassBike & DOT Bike of Dorchester for the first ever MetroFuture Walks & Talks Bike Ride at 10:30 a.m. on September 17! The bike ride will span about 12 miles along the coast, with some on road travel, including a visit to Victory Park and is suitable for adult riders of all abilities. Prior to the bike ride, learn about the work that the Metropolitan Area Planning Council does regarding bicycle planning, including more about the new Hubway Bike Share. Hear more about MassBike and about specific DOT Bike advocacy projects such as their work with the Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) to push for closing the gap in the Dorchester Coast Trail. Bring your own bike and meet at JFK Station on the Red Line to learn about biking in Boston and to enjoy a pleasant coastal bike ride. Canoe the Neponset from Lower Mills, Aug. 14

CanoeEnjoy a Sunday morning canoe adventure with Boston Natural Areas Network and the MA Department of Conservation & Recreation on Sunday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. This Neponset River paddle that ventures up to falls found at the base of the Baker Chocolate mills is limited to experienced paddlers who will meet at Milton Landing, off Wharf Street in Milton. Canoes and gear will be provided for this free event.

The gardens offer a unique venue for enjoying lively music while spending time with neighbors, family and friends. On August 10, come see Valdisa Moura perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Nightingale Community Garden (512 Park Street, Dorchester). Valdisa performs an energetic mix of Brazilian folk and jazz. All performances are free, and all are welcome to attend.

Neponset Greenway Walk, Jul. 21

Mattapan Food and Fitness CoalitionAdvocates of the Neponset Greenway, including the Boston Natural Areas Network and the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, are planning a five-mile walk on July 21. Proceeding from Mattapan Square along River Street and the Greenway Trail, the group walk is part of advocates' educational efforts about the Greenway project. The walk is scheduled to start on Thurs., July 21, at 6 p.m. at Mattapan Square MBTA station.

Neponset Estuary Paddle, Jul. 30

PaddlingEnjoy paddling up rivers or estuaries? Now's your chance to participate in the community, have some fun, paddle with friends, and even get exercise while your at it! Dorchester Community Gardens Bicycle Tour, Aug. 6

BikeJoin Dot Bike, Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition and Boston Natural Areas Network and explore Dorchester’s Community Gardens from your bicycle on Saturday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. The 2.5 hour tour begins at the Charles Street entrance to the Fields Corner MBTA station and will visit four community gardens and pass by several other gardens. The highlight of the ride will be when the group stops to experience the grand opening of Nightingale Community Garden, Dorchester’s newest and largest community garden. Enjoy cycling through Dorchester and visiting Community Gardens along the way. Riders will meet gardeners and learn about each garden's history, and current activities.

Co-sponsored by DotBike and the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition. Helmets are required. A guardian must accompany children under 14. Program is free but requires registration. To register, contact BNAN at 617-542-7696 or info@bostonnatural.org.
